At a distance of 10 Km from the city of Quetta Baluchistan is present Jable Nur which in English means the mountain of Quranic light. This mountain was named Jable Nur in 1992 when the locals started gathering the damaged Qurans coming to them from all parts of the whole country.
There are manually dig tunnels present in this mount and each tunnel is 160 feet wide. The mountain itself is 4 Km long and it has as much as 60 tunnels. All of these tunnels were dug by the locals and there was hardly any machine used back in those days.
Here in these 60 tunnels you will find a collection of 9 million different dated copies of the Holy Quran. Some of them are even as older as of 1100 A.D. This work was started 25 years ago by two brothers and four of their friends.
After 25 years their legacy continues and people are still working in the same way they all used to do. The expenditures are bared by the family of the people who started it but at the same time there are many others who contributes to this noble cause.
Some of them built a mosque in that area and some even volunteered as workers in digging the tunnels so in real terms there was never a shortage of funds and man power.
Here at this place not only the damaged copies are preserved but also are repaired and those who are repaired are then sent back to religious schools to help the children. Some 2.5 million copies have been repaired and sent back to the schools.
In 2000 the Baluchistan government took charge of the place and announced it as a public place and since then it has becomes a shrine.
